Making sure families have everything they need during their stay is Patti Majcher’s responsibility. “We call this the best place you never want to be,” Patti, the House manager, says. “We’re trying to meet needs people don’t even know they have. You know that every decision affects them directly. We know where people’s money is spent and that all the money serves these families. We’re making a substantial difference every day.”
Patti liaises with McMaster Children’s Hospital about the ongoing needs of families, interviews prospective volunteers and co-ordinates the more than 75 current ones in addition to handling the physical maintenance of the House. She became a House volunteer in 2005 and was the office manager before taking on her current role.
A mother of two girls, aged 11 and 12, she unwinds by “hanging out with the family and the dog.”

Laura Faulkner

Ronald McDonald House provides a unique service, a fact that keeps Laura Faulkner strongly motivated to raise money to keep its doors open.
“We’re always growing and changing. We’re always looking for ways to improve,” explains the fund development manager.
With the House since March 2008, Laura uses direct mail, House newsletters and community events for fundraising. She maintains good relations with donors, making sure they are recognized and appreciated.
A self-confessed “book addict,” Laura is busy with a one-year-old daughter but still finds time to relax with pottery making.

Wendy Kizlyk

Wendy Kizlyk, the House office & facilities manager, keeps track of donations in the donor database and has bookkeeping responsibilities. She looks after accounts payable and issuing tax receipts.
Family is important to Wendy, who is married and has two sons. Previously employed with the Hamilton-Burlington SPCA, she rides her own horse and has both cats and dogs at home. Before joining the House staff in April 2009, she also worked for 16 years in banking.
“When you work for a charity, it's very rewarding. There's that extra satisfaction at the end of day when you go home. You feel like you’ve made a difference.”

Elisa Siciliano

The families of children being treated at McMaster hospital appreciate the efforts of Elisa Siciliano. As family room co-ordinator, she works with volunteers at the room, a place where families can relax away from the wards, with a cup of coffee, bagels or treats.
She ensures the room is stocked with drinks and food, as well as scheduling the volunteers and responding to their feedback.
A McMaster graduate in geography, Elisa came on staff in February, 2009. She spends her free time travelling and with her family, A volunteer at the House before working there, she knows "the littlest thing we can do for families means so much to them."

Kasia has been a resident night manager for the past three years, She graduated in the spring from McMaster with a degree in cultural anthropology. "The House has been a great home for me that has enabled me to help other people."

Anne is a weekend manager who is in her fourth year of political science at Mac. "I enjoy the dynamics of the house, working with families. It feels good to be involved with a good cause. All the volunteers are amazing people. It’s great to work with people like that."

Kendall Werstiuk

Kendall is a weekend manager who is studying sociology at Mac. "I love the whole aspect of the house. I feel lucky to be a part of it, to be there for families." Kendall also continues to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald family room at Children’s Hospital, where she has helped since its inception in 2008.

Jordan Bowman

Jordan Bowman started with Ronald McDonald House in August 2009. He lives on-site as a night manager and also works as a weekend manager. Jordan is a student at McMaster University in Level II Honours Environment Science, minoring in Biology. His work experience includes participation in the National and International Science & Engineering Symposium, Environment Hamilton Project Manager and library paige. Jordan's interests include air quality and climate science and when he has free time he enjoys playing and coaching basketball, mountain biking, all season backpacking and canoe trips.

Linda is a weekend manager who is a graduate from McMaster University with a degree in Commerce. Linda had a long career working in banking, spending a few years in Human Resources. After leaving the Bank Linda has been enjoying her time raising her three children. Linda says she really enjoys being part of the House. "When you walk through the door of the House, it truly feels like a 'welcoming home' and that's what we want for the many families that come to stay here". "I feel very fortunate to be part of such a great place and to work with such a dedicated and caring team of individuals."

Teena Dowd

Teena Dowd joined Ronald McDonald House in May 2010 in the role of Accounting Manager. Teena is a Certified General Accountant and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
Teena's most recent position was with the Auxilliary to Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital as the Accounting Manager. Teena has had extensive volunteer experience in non-profits including Board President, fundraising event coordinator and sports league convener.
Teena is married with two children.

Janice Shearer

Janice Shearer is a Marketing/Advertising Professor at Mohawk College who is currently on a one year sabbatical from the College to assist in the Capital Campaign. Specifically Janice will focus on all communications associated with the Capital Campaign, working closely with our Advertising Agency JAN Kelley Marketing and our Public Relations firm GCI.
Janice has experience in Marketing and Advertising Communications in both the Public and Non-Profit sectors. She has held several volunteer positions in the non-profit sector and is currently an active volunteer with the McNally House Hospice in Grimsby and is a Board member of the Grimsby Museum.
She is the mother of 2 daughters and is a runner, with thirteen marathons under her belt and the hopes of running at least one more before hanging up her shoes!
