Volunteers are the heart and soul of Ronald McDonald House Hamilton. We rely on our team of dedicated and committed volunteers who play a valuable role in the day-to-day running of our House, the Ronald McDonald Family Room and caring for our families.

Current Volunteer Opportunities include:


Reception Volunteer

Reception volunteers are the first contact families and donors encounter when they enter the House. These volunteers will greet and welcome families and visitors, answer the telephone and re-direct calls, manage daily family health checks and provide overall assistance to families and staff as needed.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for the following shifts: 
Weekdays - 5p.m.- 9p.m. /9p.m. - 12a.m.
Weekends - 9a.m. - 1 p.m./1p.m. - 5p.m./5 p.m. - 9 p.m./9 p.m. - 12 p.m. 


Kitchen Assistant - Dinner

Kitchen Assistant Volunteers work with our chef to help serve and replenish our hot/cold buffet, tidy the serving area, and pack up/label leftover meals for families to take with them to the hospital.

Shifts are 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Housekeeping Volunteer

Housekeeping Volunteers assist the housekeeping staff with maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the House. Duties include dusting, sweeping, vacuuming the common areas of the House and helping with the House laundry.

Shifts are 3-4 hours in duration and are flexible according to the volunteer's schedule. 


Delivery Volunteer

We often transport items back and forth between our House and our Family Room located at McMaster Children's Hospital and we could use assistance from volunteers to help with this task. Shifts are flexible according to the volunteer's schedule.

Ronald McDonald Family Room Volunteer

The Ronald McDonald Family Room, located at McMaster Children's Hospital, provides families with a room in which to relax, watch TV or a movie, play games or with toys, use the computer, make a snack or have a cup of coffee and do laundry.

Volunteers in the Family Room provide an atmosphere of warmth and support by interacting with visitors, answering telephone calls and in-person inquiries, maintaining tidiness and cleanliness of the room, brewing coffee and assisting families with laundry.

Shifts are (9 a.m. - 1 p.m), (1 p.m. - 5p.m), (5 p.m- 9p.m.), (9-11 p.m). 

Breakfast Volunteer

Breakfast volunteers set up the continental breakfast area in the buffet servery, prepare pancakes and cook bacon, make coffee, replenish supplies, maintain the tidiness and cleanliness of the kitchen and assist families as needed.

Shifts are 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. or 6:30 a.m. - 8 a.m. (Saturdays only)

Support Services Assistant

Support Services Assistant Volunteers help with varying tasks in different areas of Ronald McDonald House Hamilton and the Ronald McDonald Family Room.

Volunteers cover for cancelled volunteer shifts for the reception, kitchen and Family Room. Duties also include walking supplies over to the Family Room at McMaster Hospital, tidying our culinary kitchen, sorting food and re-stocking cupboards in our Family Kitchen, re-stocking storage rooms, organizing donations, light housekeeping and room preparations for new families, and conducting tours for guests to the House.

The Support Services Assistant role will best suit a flexible, self-starter who prefers a variety of challenges and thrives on different tasks at each shift.

Shifts are 5p.m. - 9p.m. (weekdays) and 9a.m. -1p.m./ 1p.m. - 5p.m./ 5p.m.-9 p.m. (weekends)
